Pied Piper Mark Penn, ruining Hillary?

Wed Feb 20, 2008 at 07:43:53 AM PDT

I write this to defend the career of a great Democratic senator, Hillary Clinton.

Does anyone get the feeling that Mark Penn sounds a lot like the Pied Piper right now?  Standing there this morning with thousand dollar bills hanging out of the pockets of his cheap suit and cheese danish smeared on his tie.

"NO NO it's GONNA WORK IT'S GONNA WORK.  Just gotta stick with it!!!"

I'll say it again and again.  Hillary Clinton is a great senator.  She'd make a great president.  And I'm not advocating she drop out of the race. Just punt her biggest albatross.

If and when she loses the nomination I'd like to see her take over as senate Majority Leader next  congress.  I think she'd be FAR superior to Harry.

But I'm afraid Mark Penn's "mission" now is to ruin one of our fine senators.  Hillary Clinton is in serious danger of being tarnished not by her opponent, not by her husband, but by her own campaign.  And I hate to see that happen to her.

The only reason this campaign will continue is because Penn is paid over $4 million to run it - and we all know he gets his money for ruining and organization.  (win or lose?)  And they're going to make him serve out his sentence.

Hillary Clinton, regardless of this primary, is being made a fool of by her campaign.  If they send her negative against Obama she's going to look like shit, win or lose.  And Obama, win or lose, will come out fine.

See, I've worked with the likes of Penn - union busters, corporate shills.  The reality of image is secondary to their victory.  Everyone is a sacrificial lamb - even the client themselves.   On the other hand there is a very solid political contingent in the Clinton campaign who can help Hillary to win, or at the very least retain her image as a great legislator, solid on policy, warm and decent person.

As of today, can we DEMOCRATS just declare a moratorium on Penn and the rest of his crew before they ruin our candidates for the rest of their productive governmental lives?

(In the interest of full disclosure, I do support Obama in this primary.  I just don't want Clinton beat up by her own campaign staff.)
